Interview with Brian Williams

Communication and effective presentation skills are of utmost importance to our success. Brian Williams uses his experience from being Head of Global Business Strategy at Ericsson Silicon Valley, and from reaching the World Semi-Finals in the Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking to share his insights and knowledge.

On August 13th, he will be speaking about The Art & Science of Advanced Communication & Business Presentations. We met with Brian to find out a bit more about him and here are his answers to our short interview:

Tell us something that not a lot of people know about you

On my 40th birthday, I planned a day where I would run a half marathon (13.1 miles), parachute out of a plane, and preach a sermon…all on the same day.

The day after, I planned that for the rest of my life, I would never do something that crazy again! :- )

What have you seen is the most common mistake(s) entrepreneurs make when delivering presentations

  1. They usually have no structure or system to create the presentation so it lacks an intelligent design that will produce the 3 B’s.
  2. They are experts at their craft and that’s clear, but their message can be rather unclear, which is very costly.
  3. Their presentations typically violate the principles of the adult learning process, so the audience usually doesn’t really “get it”.

As a speaker yourself, who is your favorite speaker/communicator and why?

I like the old school gents like Jim Rohn & Les Brown.

Les is so fiery and passionate, he’s powerfully inspiring and his life story is so very compelling. Jim Rohn also, he was just so smooth in his delivery, and full of so much wisdom and truth. He was also a mentor to Les Brown. I would have loved to have had one conversation with Mr. Rohn, but he’s no longer with us.

What is the most important thing that attendees will learn from your presentation?

It follows the 3 points from the earlier question.

  1. They will learn the incredible value of using a system that creates a presentation that’s audience focused, with an intelligent design.
  2. They will learn some fundamental principles of creating a painfully clear and focused message.
  3. The will learn an invaluable lesson of the adult learning process, so they can modify their communication accordingly.
